Big leadership shuffle: Shopify’s COO Kaz Nejatian is leaving the e-commerce platform to become CEO of Opendoor, the online real estate company that uses tech to buy and sell homes. He joined Shopify in 2019 and was praised as an “AI-native” leader. Both cofounders are also returning to the board. [Read more]

Another Hollywood merger could be brewing. Warner Bros. Discovery (owner of HBO, CNN, and TNT) is reportedly being eyed for a takeover by the newly merged Paramount Skydance, according to The Wall Street Journal. The offer would cover the entire business, including streaming, film, and cable networks. [Read more]

The healthcare AI company just scored FDA clearance for its upgraded AI imaging tool, Tempus Pixel. The system can now create specialized heart scans that help doctors spot things like tissue damage or inflammation that normal MRIs might miss. The health insurer reaffirmed its 2025 earnings outlook, noting that more Medicare Advantage members are enrolled in higher-rated four-star plans, which bring larger government bonus payments. It also highlighted stronger-than-expected Medicaid results over the summer. [Read more]

Citizens JMP flagged a profit opportunity for the language-learning app, noting its push to direct new subscribers to the web, where fees are about 3%, instead of Apple’s App Store, which takes roughly 20%. They estimate this shift could boost Duolingo’s 2027 earnings by around 10% and raised their price target to $500. [Read more]

Alibaba is raising $3.2 billion through convertible notes (loans that can turn into shares). It plans to use the cash to double down on AI, build more data centers, and push harder overseas. It’s all part of a larger $53 billion investment plan aimed at cementing Alibaba’s role in the AI race. Turns out, dilution isn’t a problem for investors when the cash is going straight into AI. The drugmaker just secured more time to profit from Rinvoq, its arthritis and autoimmune treatment. Patent protection is extended until 2037, giving the drug four extra years of exclusivity. Rinvoq is AbbVie’s second-biggest seller after Skyrizi and this could add billions in sales. [Read more]
